The Gauteng MEC for sports, Art, Culture and Recreation, Matome Chiloane has officially handed over the revamped State-of-the-Art library to the community of Akasia in the city of Tshwane, on 17 March 2025.
Chiloane alongside President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister Gwarube at the Bana Pele ECD Roadmap summit, mapped out crucial early childhood development initiatives that will shape tomorrow’s leaders. “We proudly handed over state-of-the-art content creation tools to young storytellers-benefiting four Gauteng Schools and 20 promising film makers”, said Chiloane.
Akasia community library is one of the most advanced community libraries, have a wide stock of books, study section, game room and a ICT section to accommodate over 30 users.it has dedicated sections for children teenagers, and adults.
It offers an extensive range of services to provide the diverse need of the community. These includes general information provision, assistance with school projects, and access to community information.
The day was concluded by officially opening doors to Akasia community library after the community has waited long enough. Chiloane said that, “More than just buildings with books, our libraries are vibrant hubs of learning, growth, and opportunity. With modern resources and digital platforms, this is where every learner, educator, and community members can thrive. Let’s protect these valuable spaces so they can continue to empower, inspire and serve us all for years to come.
